Soran History

A thousand years after the fall of Imaru, a warrior race of Duneimen crossed the Sea of Dragons and first set foot upon the soils of Lojar. This vast and fertile land, so named for the great titan Lojandar who supposedly sleeps beneath its mighty hills and mountains, had yet to be settled by any mortal man. They came, now, seeking to create their own kingdoms and rebuild their peoples in the aftermath of the wars they had left behind. They found a wild land, filled with Fey, both fair and dark. They spread throughout these lands, and brought with them their warring ways. Though Druidism prospered here, eventually the influence of Kalrik would overcome them and the men went to war against the Tuatha. Centuries followed of many kingdoms rising and falling until the Dragons came, preying upon men and battling each other over their lands. This gave rise to the worship of Thamor, the first Knights and the start of The Dragon Crusades. For a short time, these warring lands united under King Sorik until his cousin , Ramsor, betrayed him. After Sorik's death, Ramsor ruled until he was defeated by Lord Authbrig who became the next king. Authbrig recognized the land would not recover from the ravagings of the dragons within even a couple generation, and so he led an exodus to return them across the sea to the lands that would become Rona. Those who remained behind would fall into barbarism and over the next millennia they would become the Skarrells of today. Finally the Ronans returned to resettle this land, but in truth they only sought its wealth and holy places. The Skarrels and Ronans often battled, but the Ronans were powerful and moved further and further inland. Then came wars. Ryosha invaded Old Camus during the Ronan-Ryoshan wars. The Ronans and Skarrells formed a loose treaty to fight against them, ending expansion of the Ronan settlements, and creating a tentative peace. Rona's settlements here eventually became one dutchy, Sora. Then came The Great War between Parthus and Rona. Rona was shattered, and new kingdoms formed. Duke Greyven of Sora was named High Lord of the Holy Crown of Thamor but the King of Rona rejected it. The Duchies and realms of Old Camus united as one, the Kingdom of Sora, naming William Greyven as King of Sora. The Church was split until Thamor sent one of the Chosen to reunify under King William Greyven. Then came the Barukar Wars. Ironcrest was destroyed but not defeated. The capital, Kingscrest, also was besieged but the Barukar were thrown back. The Barukar were defeated and scattered. The last eleven years have been relatively calm and prosperous, though ill omens speak of dark times coming.

This is Old Camus in the Age of Darkness.

History:

The first race of men settled in Verosia thousands of years ago as the ice age ended. The true origins of men are vague, but myths say they were created by a host of gods at Naeja's command.
They were primitive and developed slowly. Shamanism and Druidism were some of the first religions.

Eventually the first great human "realm", Imaru, came to be.
But Imaru fell into war, under the influence of war like gods, like Kalrik. Its outlying peoples went their own ways.

In the north, small kingdoms were forming and as they migrated further north they found the Orcs were greatly in power. They began warring with the orcs.
The worship of Kalrik, God of War, grew, and was added to their existing faiths. They joined with the Duervar and Gelvani in the battles against the Orcs.

Some clans spread even further east, crossing over the Sea of Dragons (Vas-Draga) to the continent called Lohar.
Those people would eventually become the Skarrells, which the Duervar said means "wandering warriors".

When humans arrived in Lohar they found a land sparsely populated. There were a few duervan realms, a few orc realms, a small Gelvani realm, and the Fey realms. In fact, the Fey were very prominent.
Their druidic roots gave them a connection with the Fey and they often had dealings with the Tuatha, and other fey races.
The druids grew in power, forming great realms centered on the most powerful druid homes, called Carns. The greatest was Carn-Tholtana. But there were many small ones as well, such as Caryn-Kelley.

Eventually many great kingdoms formed. Each "Cyng" (King) was the ruler of his own domain.
For a long time the Druids held the power and the Cyngs of men turned to them for guidance.
However, the power of Kalrik was still revered and the Kingdoms often warred with each other.
Some Kings began listening more to the Warpriests of Kalrik than to the Druids.
Then there came a bitter war between some of the Tuatha (fey Lords) and the realms of men that worshipped Kalrik. The Druids were caught in the middle of this and both sides blamed them for this.
Many Fey were slain in this war, as they were now fighting on two fronts (Against the Shadow in the Aetheria, and against men on the mortal world). They were also fewer in numbers already. The Fey lost and were forced to withdraw.
The Fey broke ties with the races of men after that, having little dealings with them, except the druids, and either went into hiding in their "invisible realms" on the mortal world, or fleeing back into the Aetheria.
The Druids remained powerful, but no longer held the position of importance to the Kingdoms they once did.

The Kingdoms changed through the next couple thousand years.
Then came the war of the dragons. There had always been dragons, but these dragons came from the north and battled other dragons over the lands of man.
They caused a great deal of destruction.
A prophet foretold a new god coming to unite them,Thamor.
The first priests started a church and holy warriors of Thamor formed the first "Knights" who battled the dragons. Thus the dragon crusades began.
One King rose to power through his legendary dragon slaying, Sorik of Kamus. He united many kingdoms into one, and formed The Knights of Thamor to fight the dragons.
The Dragon Crusades lasted for decades. Eventually almost all the dragons were defeated.

Then Sorik learned that a kingdom of gelvani (elves) in the north were harboring many dragons. He led an army to invade.
They defeated the elves and dragons, some of whom fled north.
Sorik took that city as his own and ruled from there for a short time.

Sorik was challenged by his cousin in the south, Ramsor. Ramsor ruled his own small kingdom and was a worshiper of Kalrik.
Ramsor was gathering power in the south, so Sorik gathered his knights and rode back to his ancestral home in Kamus.
Then the Gelvani returned with a small contingent of dragons. They could not take their city back, though, so instead they used powerful magic to wipe it from the map.
Ramsor seeing the kingdom weakened, waged war against Kamus with the aid of an evil elven wizard.
Ramsor defeated Sorik and named himself King.
But Ramsor was defeated and slain by Lord Authbrig.
Lord Authbrig became King Authbrig, the King of a ruined realm. The dragons and the wars had devastated the landscape and left the people destitute and sparse and weak.
Authbrig made a proclamation that they were going to sail back across the Sea of Dragons, to return to their ancestral lands, where the realms are supposedly now peaceful and bountiful.

Many people joined this exodus. Very few were left behind in the ruins of a realm with no leadership.
Those people who remained would slowly spread over the ruined realms, ecking a living out of the ruined soil and the ruins of ancient castles. Kalrik became their chief deity.
They are the Skarrels.
Those who crossed the sea became the Ronans.

Time passed. The Skarrells grew in number and still worshipped druidism and Kalrik.
That was 1130 O.C.
A new calendar was established in Rona on 1145 O.C./0 N.C.
A thousand years pass….

The Ronans found preosperity and power in Verosia. They established a city, New Camus, and started a new realm. Rona grew in power and quickly spread its influence through the worship of Thamor. They even assimilated those gods they could, creating an amalgam of religions.

A thousand years later it now ruled all of Verosia. The realms they conquered became duchies: Moar, Keir, Parthus, Kamora, Mikan, Gand, etc… It had become a realm of Knights, Wizards, Aristocracy and power. The Church of Rona was the official religion though there was freedom to worship any deity the church did not ascribe to the pantheon of evil gods. After a fanatical Emperor, the aristocrats set up a Triumverate government: The King rep. The parliament of Dukes, The Arch Magus rep. the Council of Wizards, and the High Lord of the Holy Crown of Thamor rep. the Church of Rona and The Knights of Thamor.

The Knights of Thamor now had multiple orders ( Sword, Shield, Lance, Crown) and were an elite military force but also maintained order in the realms. Still, thry answered the Church of Rona, so priests, bishops and arch-bishops had some authority over them. Other Knightly orders had formed as well. Knights of Karthamus were the Law of the land. Knights of Kaldon were the protectorates and loyal body guards of that maintained order. The faith had spread its control over all of Verosia. Gand and Rona especially were under their control.

The Kingdom of Rona was vast…yet it had not returned to the old realms, except occasional visits by curious sailors and adventurers who said the realm was a barbaric land with no kings. In 1147 N.C. King Aldrin Khorathis of Rona decided it was time to return to "Old Camus" (Old Kamus, but with new spelling).
In truth, the Church of Rona pushed for this due to a great relic revealing important information. They sent many hunters and delegates there to try to find something very important to their faith.
Basically, their "Bible" was written in a language no one knew how to read and it required a codex to translate it. There were three codexes. One was believed to still be in Old Camus, so the Church wanted to send people searching for it. It has yet to be found to this day and as such no one knows all of Thamor's edicts.

Rona moved into Old Camus (their name for Lohar) and reestablished Port Authbrig.
Then they moved further in and encountered the Skarrells.
The Skarrells were barbaric. Druids still existed among them. It is important to know that Druidism was never lost in Rona. Instead it became a fringe "pagan" faith that was considered worship of gods that were certainly still important for farming, animal husbandry, and for good weather. It just wasnt popular nor was it important to the Church. However the Sharrels still very much revered Kalrik. In the Ronan Pantheon he was still a war god and so worshipped by soldiers and mercenaries. The rivalry of Thamor and Kalrik was not forgotten. So the Skarrels often battled the Ronans as much as they welcomed them. Rona was powerful though and quickly overcame much of Old Camus.

Rona established many towns and villages, and eventually castles. The Skarrels would form uneasy truces with them, but then a small skirmish would turn into a short war. The borders constantly fluxed. Some Skarrel chieftsins accepted titles as Lords but most refused to bend the knee to this King. Ronan aristocrats moved into newly "reclaimed" lands with the formation of new Duchies, and there were many new Lords. One paticularly important was Duke Greyven of Gilcrest.

Then came the Ryoshan War. It was fought mostly in Parthus. This stopped expansion in Old Camus and some skarrels were even hired into the Ronan military to go and fight in the war. But towards the end of the war there was an invasion by Ryosha into the south of Old Camus, the Skarrellands. The Skarrells were forced to turn to the Ronan Dukes for aid. The Ronans and Skarrels united and drove back the invaders.
The Ryoshan war eventually ended. The King then gave the Skarrels a formal border and pact to no longer expand into Old Camus. Hence was established a formal region of Duchies that would later become Sora.

In Verosia the Wizards

Some time passed and a new threat arose in Verosia. The Parthans revolted against the Ronans.
A plague hit Rona.
Wizards begin to disappear and teleport becomes unreliable.
An army of Hobgoblins (The Kurvarge) invaded from the north and actually sieged the capital, Camus (aka New Camus).
A powerful wizard almost destroyed the Towers of Wizardy in Camus. This turned out to be a Grey-Gelvani High wizard (Queleshan) who had sent the hongoblins and was trying to destroy human wizardry.
After this the wizards of Tharthin begin crafting permanent portals to.all major Ronan cities. They start with small personal portals in their towers but they eventually built a huge portal in Tharthin connected to Camus.
The Parthans become independent and start vying for their independence.
A strange evil is spreading through the tribes of orcs, making them more powerful and uniting them ( Barukar Orcs).
King Korathis was assasinated by a secret society that was eventually rooted out.

Finally Rona fractured (The Dark Tides Prophecy fulfilled) and a Great War begins between Parthus/Gand/Kamora and Rona/Moar/Sora. Keir and Mikan declare they are independent.
The Parthans ally with Barukar to invade Tharthin. They use that portal to then invade Camus. They besiege the Triumverate.
In the last battle for Camus, the High Lord of the Holy Crown is trapped in his temple. He names one of his Generals, the Duke of Gilcrest (in Old Camus, William Greyven) as his successor in case he dies. He does die. The parthans are defested but the Great Kingdom of Rona has ended.
New kingdons form:
Parthus, Gand, Keir, Moar, Kal-Mikan, Kamora and eventually Sora. Rona remains but is much smaller.

This is how Sora split from Rona:
William Greyven becomes High Lord of the Holy Crown. But the King of Rona says no one witnessed his naming as succesor and names his own High Lord. Sora is a realm very devoted the The Church and without many wizards. Their Lords and Dukes vote to become i dependent and name William Greyvan as High Lord and King. They name the realm Sora after ancient King Sorik.

The church is now split.
It remains that way until Rona's High Lord of the Holy Crown dies of old age. Then Thamor sends one of the Twelve Chosen (saints) to unite the Church under Greyven.
To this day, Willian Greyven is the High Lord if the Holy Crown of all The Church. He is still King of Sora as well.

Then began the Barukar war.
Evil orcs spread all over the workd. They invade and conquere Keir. They have wizards and are devil worshippers. They have red glowing eyes, pitch black flesh and claws. They can summon fire and even make use of firearms (limited). They build siege engines that burn oil and ships that burn coal. They attack Moar and Sora. They originated in Old Camus.
There is a siege of Ironcrest. The city is destroyed but the people are saved by one of the Chosen, Bartal.
Then the Barukar besiege Kingscrest (Seat of King Greyven).
A huge dramatic battle happens there and the Barukar are defeated.
In Verosia the Barukar invaded the Gelvani realms and tried to raise their fallen Titan, Vornikar. Legends say the Gelvani gods united with the last orc god, Gamorgh, to defeat the Titan. Whatever happened, thr Batukar were defeated and scattered. They still rule various lands across the realms (Keir in Verosia amd Ig-Baruk il Old Camus.)

The Barukar war ended in 1300 N.C.
It is now 1312 N.C.
